Dale Warrander crossed the Tasman from his Gold Coast base to completely dominate the annual Lydiard Legend marathon raced around Auckland's Waitakere Ranges on Saturday morning.
The 2004 Athens Olympian eased into the lead at five kilometres and went on to battle through the gusty conditions just over two and a half hours for the 42.2 kilometre race.
Iain MacDonald of Tauranga passed a tiring Steven O'Callaghan of Rotorua at 30 kilometres to claim second five minutes later, with O'Callaghan taking third.
