More medals for New Zealand on day four of Delhi Games

12:30 pm on 8 October 2010

The New Zealand cyclists have contributed another three medals to New Zealand's tally at the Commonwealth Games with Sam Webster pipping team-mate Eddie Dawkins for bronze in the men's sprint, following the men's pursuit team's silver medal and Joanne Kiesanowski silver in the women's scratch race.

The two silvers and the bronze lift New Zealand's medal tally to 10 in total with six of those medals coming from the cycling track.

The New Zealand middle distance runner Nikki Hamblin will race in tonight's final of the women's 1500 metres after finishing third in her heat.

The Silver Ferns beat England 47-41 in their netball pool match in Delhi and will be hopeful of avoiding having to face arch-rivals Australia in the semi-finals, presuming the Diamonds beat Jamaica as expected.

The New Zealand tennis player Rubin Statham lost his quarter-final match to India's number one Somdev Dewarman in straight sets.

And seven New Zealand swimmers will race in the semi-finals of their respective events tonight.

Daniel Bell and silver medallist Gareth Kean will swim in the semi-finals of the 100 metre backstroke, Glenn Snyders the 50 breastroke, Emily Thomas the 50 backstroke, Moss Burmester the 100 butterfly and Hayley Palmer and Amaka Gessler the 50 freestyle semi-finals.
