The Tasman rugby team continued their role as late season spoilers ensuring Northland will finish in the bottom half of the ITM Cup after beating the Taniwha 34-29 in Nelson.

Having tipped over Bay of Plenty in a high-scoring thriller last weekend, Tasman scored five tries to four in their fourth win of the season in front of a vocal home crowd.

The Mako's scored 19 unanswered points in as many minutes at the start of the second spell playing with the kind of form that belies their place near the bottom of the ITM Cup standings.

Tasman now sit in 11th place with 20 points while Northland are in ninth with 24.
