Giants end 56 years of failure

12:57 pm on 3 November 2010

The San Francisco Giants are the new American champions of baseball, taking the World Series 4-1 after dashing the Texas Rangers hopes by winning game five 3-1 in Texas.

The title ends a 56-year world series drought for the West Coasters and gives their fans their first championship since 1954 - although the Giants were then a New York-based team.

Slugger Edgar Renteria hit a single late in the game to seal the win for the Californian's and says this afternoon's victory tastes just as sweet as his world series win with the Florida Marlins thirteen years ago.
