Melbourne-bound Tiger Woods quickly dusted off the rust to shoot an impressive four-under-par 68 in the first round at the WGC Champions golf tournament in China.

Woods, coming off a one-month break to play here on his way to the Australian Masters, bogeyed his first hole but that was his only blemish in benign conditions at Sheshan.

Leader Italian Francesco Molinari used four successive birdies on his back nine as a springboard to a sizzling seven-under 65, one stroke better than Englishman Lee Westwood, the new world number one.

Adam Scott heads the Australians on three-under 69, with Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Michael Sim, Marcus Fraser and Richard Green all on 72.
