Red Devils irrestible over Rovers to top EPL

Manchester United have gone two points clear at the top of English football's Premier League with a 7-1 thrashing of visitors Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford.

Dimitar Berbatov bagged five goals as a rampant United moved clear of Arsenal and Chelsea, Berbatov ending his goal drought to become only the fourth player to score five goals in a Premier League match.

Berbatov joins an elite club with Andy Cole, Alan Shearer and Jermain Defoe the only other members.

Arsenal overcame Aston Villa 4-2 at Villa Park to go outright second while the champions Chelsea travel to Newcastle United on Monday.

Fourth-placed Manchester City could only share the points at Stoke City in a 1-1 draw.

Everton's woes continue with a 4-1 loss to the visiting West Bromwich Albion while West Ham United scored a vital 3-1 home win over Wigan Athletic.

Fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers stayed above the bottom-placed Hammers with their 3-2 home victory over Sunderland.

Fulham drew 1-1 at Craven Cottage with Birmingham City and high-flying Bolton Wanderers also shared the points with Blackpool, 2-2 at the Reebok.
