Hauritz hundred boosts Test chances

The dumped Australian spin bowler Nathan Hauritz has boosted his chances of a test recall by making his maiden first class century for New South Wales in a Sheffield Shield match against South Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

After coming in as nightwatchman Hauritz batted all day yesterday before being dismissed today for 146.

Since his axing in favour of Tasmania's Xavier Doherty, Hauritz has also claimed career-best bowling figures of five for 39 against Western Australia in Perth.

He says he could have made an impact in the Adelaide test, which England won by innings after their off spinner Graeme Swann took five second innings wickets on a turning wicket.
