Athletics NZ has concerns about Gill

Athletics New Zealand is concerned that teenage shot put prodigy Jacko Gill may plateau and burn out.

The national body's keen to help manage the teenager properly so he'll realise he has a long career ahead of him.

High Performance Director Kevin Ankrom says the meteoric rise of Gill, who holds the world record in both the five-kilogramme and six-kilo shot for every age group from 14 to 17, may not continue.

Gill's got the mindset to keep improving but he's only 15, and has a very rigorous training programme.

Ankrom says that's probably why Gill's so advanced.
