Ponting will definitely play in Melbourne Ashes test

The Australia skipper Ricky Ponting will definitely play in the fourth Ashes cricket test despite fracturing a finger in the third test victory, according to batting coach Justin Langer.

Ponting, who suffered the injury to the little finger of his left hand while fielding in the Perth test, faces a race to be fit for the Melbourne encounter, which starts on Sunday.

But Langer says he'd be amazed if Ponting doesn't play, with the Boxing Day test in Melbourne offering a chance to win the Ashes.

If Ponting is ruled out Michael Clarke would take over the captaincy.
