Defending champs upset in first round post section play in Fours

The men's defending champions have been knocked out in the first round of post section play in the fours at the national open bowls championship in Dunedin.

Alvin Gardiner's team were upset by Terry Scott's quartert 21-18 after the North East Valley team rallied from 11-5 down.

Scott's team will next take on Gary lawson's four who had a convincing first round win.

Andrew Kelly's strong quartet, including Black Jack Shannon McIlroy and pairs winner Chris Le Lievre, has been upset 16-11 by Ian Brown's team.

Last year's pairs champion,Reen Stratford, has skipped her fours through to the second round where they will meet Elmwood's Pam Phair and her composite team.
