Wins for Crocs, Snakes

Friday was a good night for National Basketball League teams from Far North Queensland, with both the Townsville Crocodiles and Cairns Taipans victorious in the Australian basketball championship.

The Townsville Crocodiles have held on for a 71-62 win over the Gold Coast Blaze at the Townsville Entertainment Centre to consolidate their position in fourth spot on the ladder with an 11-8 record, while Gold Coast dropped to 7-11 and are in seventh place.

The Cairns Taipans staged a dramatic comeback to slide past the Wollongong Hawks 97-86 at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, surging home in the final three minutes behind an offensive onslaught by captain Alex Loughton, who poured in 16 of his game-high 24 points in the fourth.

Cairns improved to 11-6 and are currently third, while Wollongong slumped to 9-9 and remain in fifth.
