Steel win in Invercargill

6:27 am on 15 March 2011

The Southern Steel have re-ignited their spluttering trans-tasman netball championship campaign edging past the bottom placed Central Pulse 50-44 in Invercargill last night to claim their first win of the season.

Former Australian international Natasha Chokljat had a dream debut in the Steel dress to inspire her team to the much needed win which lifts the Southerners into sixth on the championship ladder.

The Pulse remain firmly rooted to the foot of the table and once again faltered in the final stages of the match after starting with a hiss and a roar in the deep south.

Also last night the NSW Swifts stayed on the threshold of the competition's top four with an unconvincing 54-45 victory over the Canterbury Tactix in Sydney on Monday night.

The Tactix are equal bottom with the Pulse but have played two less games after postponing their match against the Mystics following last months Christchurch earthquake.
