Backstroker Daniel Bell is seeking some added competition from the best college swim team in the United States to enhance his Olympic hopes.

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist is a member of Swimming New Zealand's High Performance Centre at the Millennium Institute and will spend eight weeks with the American collegiate champions and their coach.

Dave Durden guided Cal Berkeley to the NCAA title recently in just his fourth year as head coach and has remained in touch with Bell's coach Scott Talbot, a former teammate at Auburn University.

Talbot says Durden's programme will challenge Bell who needs stimulus regularly to keep him at his best.
