England rugby union management in disarray

6:13 am on 12 July 2011

The chairman of England's rugby union has resigned less than nine weeks out from the World Cup, creating further problems for the game there.

Thomas ended his six-year tenure yesterday following a council meeting to review a disciplinary panel's verdict into the RFU's chaotic attempt to hire a performance director, which led to the dismissal of chief executive John Steele.

The RFU has no permanent chairman or chief executive, and is still without a performance director.
