New Zealand's Olympic silver medalist kayaker Ben Fouhy has failed to qualify for next year's London Games after finishing a disappointing ninth in the K1 1000 final at the Canoe Sprint World Championships in Hungary.

Fouhy hasn't had a lot of race experience as of late and looked out of sorts on the gusty course, limping home in ninth and knowing his 2012 Olympic dream is now over.

It was a tough day all round for the New Zealand athletes in Szeged with the men's K4 1000 team of Scott Bicknell, Troy Burbidge, Liam O'Loughlin and Fred Teear failing to qualify for the final, while Teneale Hatton also came up short of advancing in the women's K1 500.

The women's pair of Lisa Carrington and Erin Taylor provided the brightest note on the water after qualifying 5th fastest for the K2 500 final, a top six place in Sunday's final should qualify the duo for London 2012.

Steven Ferguson and Darryl Fitzgerald were also off the top pace finishing fifth in the men's K2 1000 semi-final, the result only good enough to qualify the pair for the B final.
