Hurricanes sign Shields and re-sign Thrush

The Hurricanes have made two key signings as head coach Mark Hammett continues to finalise his Super Rugby squad for next season after dropping All Blacks Andrew Hore and Ma'a Nonu.

The Wellington captain Jeremy Thrush has re-signed for next year with an option for 2013 and the Lions forward Brad Shields has signed for two years, bringing the total number of contracted players to 24.

Hammett says Shields, who can play number eight or lock, is an exciting prospect who's made a big impact in his first ITM Cup season after playing for the world champion New Zealand Under 20s.
