All Blacks withdrawing from World Cup would be last resort says NZRU boss

The New Zealand Rugby Union boss Steve Tew says pulling the All Blacks out of the next World Cup because of the high cost would be a last resort.

Steve Tew says the participation of major playing countries in future world cups is under threat because competing in the event costs millions of dollars in lost revenue.

A major sticking point is around commercial rules which block unions from using their own team sponsors during a World Cup.

Steve Tew says not sending the All Blacks to the Rugby World Cup would be a last resort.

Steve Tew says the NZRU has taken its concerns to the International Rugby Board and a review into World Cup Operations should be completed by next May.
