A day after losing to the team they beat in the finals last season, the Miami Heat, Dirk Nowitzki led his revamped Mavericks with 20 points but the nearest any of his team-mates got was Jason Kidd with 12 - the only other Mav to reach double figures.
Elsewhere the Oklahoma City Thunder went two from two with a 104-100 victory at home over the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Charlotte Bobcats edged the visiting Milwaukee Bucks 96-95, the Toronto Raptors won 104-96 at the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Orlando Magic won 104-95 at home over the Houston Rockets, the Indiana Pacers bounced the Detroit Pistons 91-79, and the New Jersey Nets beat the Wizards 90-84 in Washington.
