Auckland powerlifter banned for life

The Auckland powerlifter Rodney Newman has been banned for life from competing in the sport by the Sports Tribunal after multiple anti-doping violations.

Newman was banned for two years in 2008 and in 2010 Drug Free Sport New Zealand alleged Newman had committed further anti-doping violations.

A hearing was scheduled for October that year but was adjourned when the Ministry of Health took separate legal proceedings against him, over importing prescription medicines.

The sports tribunal also found Newman guilty of participating in the sport in breach of the two year ban imposed on him.
