Border backs Ponting's decision to stay on

The former Australia Test cricket captain has Allan Border has backed Ricky Ponting's decision to keep playing.

The 37-year-old Ponting says despite being dropped from the Australian one day squad he's determined to keep playing Test cricket and wants to play in next year's Ashes series in England.

The former Australian pace bowler Geoff Lawson says Ponting is being self-indulgent and should have already retired from the Test arena, adding if he was true to his word about wanting to go out on top then now's the time.

But Border, whose 156-Test career ended when he was 38, says Ponting is still playing well and if the selectors decide his time is up then Ponting will simply accept it.
