The Queensland Reds have broken a nine-year Super Rugby losing drought in Sydney with a heartbreaking last gasp try to beat the New South Wales Waratahs 25-21.

The Reds trailed 21-18 near the end of the match before winger Dom Shipperley produced a piece of individual brilliance to scamper 60 metres down the right touchline and score the visitors' only try of the match at ANZ Stadium.

Former North Harbour player Michael Harris converted Shipperley's try and kicked six penalties, while Wycliff Palu and Sarel Pretorius scored the tries for the hosts and Daniel Halangahu kicked one conversion and three penalties.

The victory also means the defending champion Reds retain the Bob Templeton Cup.
