The billionaire businessman Owen Glenn has bought a 50 percent share in the Warriors rugby league club just two days before the side's NRL season opener against defending champions Manly at Eden Park.

Glenn and previous major shareholder Eric Watson have agreed on a 50-50 joint venture in which they'll own 100 percent of the Auckland club, having bought out previous part-owner Mark Hotchin.

Glenn says he and Watson first talked about the possibility of buying into the club a year ago.

He says he will be an active shareholder and has plenty of plans for the club which he will unveil in time however he says he won't be interfering in any on field decisions as that's coach Brian McClennan's domain.
