London's River Thames will be graced with a traditional Maori war canoe to mark the Diamond Jubilee celebrating the 60th year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth.

Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Chris Finlayson has confirmed New Zealand will be sending a crew to sail a waka taua in London as the country's official participant in the Thames River Pageant.

He says waka welcomed the world to New Zealand during the Rugby World Cup, and now waka will take New Zealand to the world.

The waka being used in the pageant is Te Hono ki Aotearoa or the connection to New Zealand which is on permanent loan to the Leiden Museum in the Netherlands.
