The Iwi Radio Network - Te Whakaruruhau o Nga Reo Irirangi Maori - has announced the finalists for the Inaugural Iwi Radio Awards for 2012, with the oldest Maori radio station based in Wellington vying for the supreme award.

Twenty-one iwi radio stations from Kaitaia to Christchurch will be celebrating the work they do promoting Maori language and culture and informing and entertaining their listeners at an award ceremony being held in Rotorua on Saturday 17 March.

Wellington Maori radio station Te Upoko o Te Ika has been named as a finalist for the supreme award - Te Pou Irirangi Maori o te Tau - along with Tauranga-based Moana FM, and Ngati Hine FM in Whangarei.

The last award ceremony, the Maori Media Awards, was held in 2008, and gave awards to people working in all media areas - including newspapers, radio and television.
