Mourners at the tangi for the late Dr Hone Kaa will bury him just before Tuesday at his family urupa (cemetery) in Rangitukia on the East Coast.
Hundreds of mourners have been passing through Hinepare Marae near Tikitiki north of Gisborne to pay their final respects to the late Dr Hone Kaa.
The funeral service at 10am at the church, will be followed by burial of the former Archdeacon of Tamaki Makaurau just across the road at Okaroro urupa.
Aged 70 when he died in an Auckland hospital last Thursday, Dr Kaa was of Ngati Porou and Ngati Kahungunu iwi.
Bishop of Tai Tokerau, Te Kito Pikaahu, describes Dr Kaa as a mentor, a respected elder, and a close friend who guided him in his ministry over 25 years.
