Former Waikato leader still helping wider forum for iwi heads

A former chair of the Waikato-Tainui executive, Tukoroirangi Morgan, says he is continuing to help out the Iwi Chairs Forum - which represents more than 400,000 Maori - even though he is no longer a tribal leader.

A range of topics - including constitutional reform, freshwater and climate change - are canvassed by the forum, which talks to government officials about those kaupapa.

Mr Morgan has been replaced on the forum by the new chairperson of the Waikato-Tainui executive, Tom Roa, but continues to work alongside members of the forum.

He says he will now act as the chief adviser to the senior members of the group, such as Tuwharetoa Paramount chief, Sir Tumu Te Heuheu, Apirana Mahuika and Mark Solomon.
