Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples says there needs to be a greater effort to create a strong Maori brand - to boost New Zealand's international trade relations.

Dr Sharples recently returned from China on a trade mission, accompanied by three Maori owned fishing companies.

The Government has been developing a New Zealand Inc China strategy with this country's now second biggest trade partner.

But Maori Affairs Minister, Pita Sharples, on Wednesday told the Maori Affairs Select Committee that what is also needed is a visual Maori brand, particularly with seafood products.
