6:43 am on 25 June 2012

Waitangi National Trust says its new chief executive Greg McManus comes with an impressive mix of commercial, entrepreneurial and cultural skills.

Mr McManus is the current director of the Rotorua Museum of Art and History.

Trust chairman Pita Paraone says Mr McManus has raised the status of the museum as a leading tourist attraction for the area.

Mr Paraone says his record in working with the Te Arawa Confederation of iwi will be of significant value to the trust - whose role includes managing the land and buildings on the site where Te Tiriti o Waitangi was first signed in 1840.

He expects an increased momentum in the aims and direction of the trust with Mr McManus in charge.

Mr McManus begins his role from 6 August.
