The director of Te Rau Matatini, the national Maori health workforce development organisation, says a new award for Maori mental health workers, is about recognising rangatahi groups who are making positive changes.
Maori health organisations from all over New Zealand attended a function in Upper Hutt on Monday night for the biennial Toitu Hauora Maori Leadership in Health 2030 awards.
Te Rau Matatini director Nicola Ehau says the new award category celebrates the success of people under the age of 25 working in the mental health sector, and the value they bring to develop services for youth.
The winners were Tu Tama Wahine o Taranaki, which has a focus on rangatahi leadership development in Taranaki and Te Aroha Hutt Valley which provides various hauora services for young Maori.
Tauranga based Te Puna Hauora Services will provide mentoring support to both services.
