6:42 am on 31 October 2012

A new centre focused on the development of Maori governance will officially open in Waikato next week.

Te Mata Hautu Taketake, the new Maori and Indigenous Governance Centre at the University of Waikato, will focus its research on modern themes that are relevant to Maori as part of the University's law faculty.

The centre will run governance courses and workshops with Maori organisations and communities, as well as publish relative academic work.

Judges, lawyers and public officials will attend the centre's launch in Hamilton, Rotorua, and Wellington in early November.
