Maori voting option soon

11:33 am on 11 February 2013

Maori voters have until the end of July to decide whether to be on the Maori or general electoral roll.

The Electoral Commission is gearing up for the Maori electoral option, which starts on 25 March and runs for four months.

Enrolment manager Murray Wicks said an awareness campaign has already begun to help people of Maori descent choose which roll they want to be on.

The outcome of the Maori option, along with the results of this year's Census, will determine how many Maori and general seats there will be in the next two elections.
