Maori to enrol if they haven't received Maori electoral pack

8:32 pm on 2 April 2013

The Electoral Commission is advising tangata whenua who haven't received a Maori Electoral Option pack in the mail that they need to enrol to vote.

The commission's National Manager of Enrolment Services, Murray Wicks, says there are a number of reasons why people may not have received a pack.

He says this includes the wrong address details or not indicating being of Maori descent when a person first enrolled.

Mr Wicks says no matter what the reason, people still need to fill in a new enrolment form, and choose whether they want to be on the general electoral roll or the Maori roll.

To do that, they can phone 0800 36 76 56, or text their name and address to 3676 for free.

They can also visit any PostShop or visit the website, www.elections.org.nz
