A Maori trades co-operative has been created in Tamaki Makaurau - Auckland.
The aim is for members to work as a block to buy discounted materials and win projects by being part of a larger network.
In the longer term, the group wants to provide employment opportunities for young Maori aiming for a job in the building and construction industry.
A similar organisation - Te Kaihanga Co-operative - already operates in Otautahi - Christchurch.
Its deputy chair Barry Baker says he's offering advice to the team in Auckland.
He says Auckland is in a growth spurt, due to housing shortages.
