Te Reo guide to Parliament planned

7:51 am on 17 July 2013

Te Reo Maori speaking students will soon be able to read a new guide to how Parliament works.

A teacher handbook and topic cards are being produced for kura and Maori immersion classes, and will also be published in English.

They will give an introduction to concepts of democracy, representation and leadership.

Education co-ordinator at Parliament, Miranda Thomson, says the resources will include examples of how the system works.

She says one card will feature aspects of Parliament's role in relation to the Maori land march of 1975.

Ms Thomson says the handbook and topic cards can be sent out to schools. They are being made in conjunction with Huia Publishers.
