The teenager who represented Tamaki Makaurau in Youth Parliament received a standing ovation for his speech on te reo Maori in schools.
Every three years, MPs choose a young person to represent them and they take part in select committees and parliamentary debates.
Jordan Brown of Rutherford College in Auckland was chosen by Tamaki Makaurau MP, Pita Sharples, to represent him.
The 17-year-old delivered a speech entirely in te reo Maori on why Maori should be a compulsory subject at school.
He says everyone was shocked and he received the first standing ovation from all the speakers.
Jordan Brown says it was nerve wracking but he enjoyed the experience, and hearing the range of opinions held by other Youth MPs.
