Two online Maori focussed services have been named finalists in the World Summit Awards in Information and Communication Technology.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Amy Adams has congratulated eight New Zealand groups for being selected.

Aotearoa has participated in the awards, which recognise creativity and innovation, since 2003.

The online marae mapping service, Maori Maps and Maori Television's website are among the finalists.

Te Potiki National Trust's Maori Maps website provides information, photographs and maps of almost 750 marae.

Trust chair Paora Tapsell says he's surprised the site has been named a finalist.

He says it's exciting to learn that there's international interest in its service.

Meanwhile, Maori Television, says it's very proud of its website and is delighted to be recognised as a finalist by the World Summit Awards.

A final round of judging will take place at the end of next month.

The winners will be announced in October at a World Summit Awards event in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
