Maori Party wants Pora case reopened

9:18 pm on 1 August 2013

The Maori Party says it is preparing a letter for the Prime Minister calling for the Teina Pora case to be re-opened.

Pora has spent 20 years in jail for the murder and rape of Susan Burdett in 1992, a crime he claims he did not commit.

The Maori Party says new evidence was brought to light on a TV3 current affairs programme on Wednesday, which suggests there could have been a miscarriage of justice.

It says a letter has already been sent to the Ministry of Justice urging an investigation and Prime Minister John Key will soon receive one also.
