The Environmental Protection Authority has wound up a month long roadshow consulting iwi about the agency's role in managing the waters of the exclusive economic zone.

In June the Government announced a new law to enable the comprehensive environmental management of activities in the zone which is 20 times the size of New Zealand's land mass.

The authority's general manager for Maori policy, Linda Faulkner, says iwi from centres throughout the country had many questions.

She says iwi were keen to be part of management issues surrounding the exclusive economic zone, particularly in areas such as commercial fishing.

Meetings about overseeing the environmental impacts were held in the main centres and also in other areas such as Napier, Blenheim and Invercargill.
