A Maori studies professor at Massey University is on a mission to enhance Maori and world indigenous knowledge in the education system.

Taiarahia Black is in the process of finalising his latest publication titled Matauranga Maori and Global Indigenous Knowledge.

More than a dozen New Zealand and international indigenous academics have contributed to the book, to be published by the Qualifications Authority later this year.

Professor Black says kura kaupapa Maori language immersion schools will benefit from seeing how other indigenous people build their cultural and language capability within their own frameworks.

He says the research can become part of the teaching and resource tools and help drive Maori academic aspirations.
