Creative Waitangi Day ideas sought

The Ministry for Culture and Heritage, Te Manatu Taonga, is calling for creative ideas on how to mark next Waitangi Day.

It is offering funding to groups nationwide who want to host events on 6 February.

The Commemorating Waitangi Day Fund has in previous years supported community events on marae, town squares and riverbanks to celebrate New Zealand's identity by remembering the first signing of Te Tiriti at Waitangi.

The average grant is about $3000 and the ministry is keen to ensure there are events run in partnership between tangata whenua, councils and community groups.

Funding applications close at the end of September.
