Chance for rangatahi to learn construction skills

7:02 pm on 23 August 2013

A North Island iwi is embarking on a scheme to boost youth training and employment.

Waikato-Tainui has formed a partnership with engineering company Aurecon to train and develop rangatahi in construction skills.

Waikato-Tainui chief executive Parekawhia McLean says the young people will be employed by Aurecon, and they'll earn money as they learn on the job.

Any young person registered with the iwi can apply, with the iwi advertising the opportunity through its database and on Facebook.
