Maori artists gear up for awards

The Creative New Zealand - Te Waka Toi awards ceremony recognising contemporary and traditional Maori artists from acting to oratory is being held in Wellington this weekend.

The event, which acknowledges all forms of the arts, is being held on Saturday night at the national museum, Te Papa Tongarewa.

Several awards are up for grabs, including titles such as supreme lifetime service to Maori arts and contributions to revitalising heritage Maori arts and strengthening the Maori language, as well as Te Waka Toi scholarships.
