Te Whakatohea Maori Trust Board says a telemedicine project in Eastern Bay of Plenty, which provides medical advice via video link, is a fantastic idea.

Telemedicine has become available in parts of the region to improve access to health services for those living in remote communities.

It's thought the initiative will provide benefits including reduced travel and costs.

The trust board is based in Opotiki and its chief executive, Dickie Farrar, says the initiative is a good thing for the community.
