Treaty lawyer, Paul Majurey, is taking a seat on the board of Te Papa Tongarewa, the Museum of New Zealand.

Mr Majurey has successfully lead negotiations with the Crown to ensure volcanic cones, islands and reserves were returned to a group of Auckland iwi, known as the Tamaki Collective.

He's a partner in the law firm Atkins Holm Majurey, and his previous work includes assisting with the Attorney-General's 2009 Ministerial Review of the Waikato River Treaty settlement.

The appointment to Te Papa has been made by Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Chris Finlayson.
