Cricket bowls out kapa haka

The national kapa haka championships have been bumped from their Hagley Park slot in Christchurch.

The representative body - Te Matatini - says the event will now be held in March 2015, not February - due to a clash with the Cricket World Cup.

Te Matatini says it's disappointed it's had to move the festival after the dates were confirmed.

The Cricket World Cup organisers have thanked Maori cultural groups for agreeing to move to March.

The final day of the festival was set to run on the same day of the opening of the cricket cup at Hagley Park.

However, the Environment Court has ruled that both events can't be held there if the combined crowds would exceed 20,000 people.
