MP picking boundary changes for Maori electorates

Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell believes there will be some boundary changes for the seven Maori electorates.

The Maori Electoral Option statistics released with Census data on Monday showed there was not enough of an increase in voters going on to the Maori roll to create an eighth Maori Seat.

Mr Flavell says people leaving Christchurch and moving north after the earthquakes means there could be changes to the size of each of the seven electorates.

He says he hopes any changes are not too dramatic as the electoral boundaries match up well with the iwi or waka boundaries.
