New chair focuses on trust's finances

The new head of Taranaki Whanui's corporate arm in Wellington says one of his top priorities is to get the books back in the black.

Neville Baker has been elected as chair of Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust, after tribal members urged him to stand.

He says the trust's investments will be reviewed, including property it was given as part of its Treaty settlement with the Crown.

Mr Baker says they'll need to assess the potential of its property portfolio, which includes the former airforce base at Shelley Bay in Wellington.

Neville Baker replaces Mahara Okeroa, who stays on as a trustee.
