Trades co-op to stop Maori slipping through cracks

6:36 am on 19 November 2013

Maori are falling through the gaps between school, training and employment - and the Maori Allied Industries Association says it wants to do something about it.

The association is creating a network of Maori organisations in an attempt to ease the transition to employment and development.

Chair Lee Taituha says there's a separation between secondary education, tertiary studies, Maori companies and business development, people are falling through the gaps at each of these points.

Mr Taituha says the association wants to provide opportunities for youth to train, and to help grow Maori business so they can employ them.
