Call to revamp Maori health committee

Members of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists want to revitalise a committee for Maori womens' health.

College member and Hawke's Bay practitioner Leigh Duncan says a Maori health committee was formed in 2006, but did not last because Maori members are generally very busy.

Ms Duncan says the college has received seeding funds to set goals and put a plan together for a new committee, which will aim to improve Maori health statistics.

She says it will take some time to work out the approach the college will take but says there is a lot of goodwill on its part to improve outcomes.

Ms Duncan hopes to put the plan to the Australian College in February to seek funding.
