Tai Hauauru nominees deserving, says Mair

Maori Party vice-president Ken Mair says it will be challenging for the party to select just one of the six nominees wanting to stand for the Tai Hauauru seat.

Caucus members who have put their hands up to replace Tariana Turia include former Te Tai Tonga MP Rahui Katene and party political adviser Christopher McKenzie.

Mr Mair says the nominees are extremely talented and is delighted it will be hard to select just one person to stand.

He says the nominees understand the Maori world, have political knowledge, live Maori values and have fought for the rights of Maori people.

The party will announce its candidate on 8 December.
